Inspired by I Got the Rhythm and its joyful celebration of the rhythm we carry in our own bodies, kids will decorate their own spin drum, a simple twist-and-tap instrument that makes sound as it spins, letting them create and move to a beat all their own.

Inspired by Firebird, about a young girl inspired to become a ballerina, kids bring their own bird to life on a pre-cut cardboard shape with colorful wings. Once finished, we'll tie a string to each bird so it can be hung and displayed, wings outstretched, as a reminder that they too can take flight and become something great.

Drummer Boy of John John is the true history behind the invention of the steel drum in Trinidad. Taking a cue from this story of turning everyday materials into music, little ones will make their own musical instrument to shake, tap, and dance along to! A fun, hands-on way to explore rhythm and invention, inspired by the spirit of Trinidad's steel pan story.

Inspired by Dancing in the Wings by Debbie Allen, the story of a girl who doesn't fit the "typical" dancer mold finding her own place to shine, families decorate their own pair of wings. Using crayons, tempera sticks, and stickers, kids bring color and pattern to their wings, echoing the story's message that every dancer belongs on stage exactly as they are.
