Ready, set, create! miniMakers are your opportunity to dive into different art mediums once a month at MOCA. Workshops are for families with children ages 6-12, designed around artists, art history, and current MOCA Exhibitions.
Inspired by queer artist Sharmistha Ray’s Automatic Writings series, families will create colorful abstract artworks using patterns, shapes, symbols, and expressive mark-making. Participants will experiment with automatic drawing techniques by letting their hands move freely across the paper, creating layered “cosmic landscapes” inspired by feelings, memories, music, and imagination.
Using a variety of drawing materials, and repeated shapes inspired by sacred geometry, artists will build vibrant compositions that reflect emotion, movement, and personal storytelling. This activity encourages mindfulness, creativity, and self-expression through intuitive art-making.

We ask that participants register all children as well as adults in their group, it helps our staff know how many seats to prepare, thank you!
This free program is made possible by the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (NMCRA). We are also grateful to the Books & Books Literary Foundation for providing our participating families free picture books.
