Ready, set, create! miniMakers are your opportunity to dive into different art mediums once a month at MOCA. Workshops are for families with children ages 6-12, designed around artists, art history, and current MOCA Exhibitions.
In this hands-on workshop, families will explore the exciting world of balance, structure, and design through tensegrity sculptures- a type of structure that appears to float using tension and compression. Led by University of Miami Engineering Professor Landolf Rhode-Barbarigos, participants will decorate wooden sticks and use string to connect them into dynamic 3D forms. As artists build and adjust their creations, they’ll discover how balance and tension work together to create movement and stability. The finished sculptures can be held, gently moved, and explored like a fidget- making this activity both creative and sensory-friendly. This workshop blends art, engineering, and play, encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, and hands-on experimentation.

We ask that participants register all children as well as adults in their group, it helps our staff know how many seats to prepare, thank you!
