MOCA Makers Legacy Series: Archives as Practice
This season, MOCA Makers welcomes participants to delve into how memory, material, and meaning endure through artistic expression. Archives as Practice reimagines MOCA’s well-loved monthly workshops as a focused series exploring archival methods—examining how stories are preserved and conveyed through food, nature, the body, and community.
Timed with MOCA’s 30th anniversary, the series reflects on the museum’s own evolving archive and its impact on North Miami’s cultural landscape. Each month, artist-led sessions guide participants through creative processes inspired by MOCA’s exhibitions and teaching collection, offering new ways to record and reimagine personal and collective histories.
November 8: Material as Archive
The first workshop in the series features a Quilt Square Workshop, part of an ongoing collaborative quilting project with the City of North Miami in celebration of the city’s centennial. Participants will contribute individual quilt squares reflecting their personal memories and community stories, which will later be joined together as part of a collective artwork honoring North Miami’s rich history and shared future.
