Make your own photographic blueprint using the sun's UV rays with Miami-based artist Anna Goraczko. In this workshop, she will guide you through producing cyanotypes, a camera-less form of photography, a technique also explored by MOCA exhibiting artist, Andrea Chung. Each participant will learn the history of this medium and get hands-on experience with the process, from preparing paper to printing an image using plant materials, found objects, and film negatives. Materials will be provided, and guests are encouraged to bring personal items if desired.
Anna Goraczko (b. Miami, FL 1984) is a Miami-based artist who employs cyanotypes to create vibrant images and installations focusing on family history, body positivity, and spiritual connection. She uses found objects, digital photography, and the human body to develop photographic blueprints that are ethereal, dreamlike, and nostalgic. In her work, she explores the potential for abstract images to connect across various timelines. Her interest in documenting themes of place and memory, particularly as they relate to her upbringing in South Florida, comes after a return home after living in Chicago, Illinois, for nearly a decade.
Goraczko received a BFA in Art (2008) and an MFA in Visual Arts (2020) from Florida International University. Selected solo exhibitions include “Holding Onto My City” (2024) at Garden Title in North Miami, FL, and “Anna Goraczko” (2023) at The Frank Gallery in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Selected group exhibitions include “Mama, G-Ma, and Nana” (2023) at Miami Beach Urban Studios in Miami Beach, Florida, and “Florida Biennial: Installations, Portraiture, Materiality, and Magic Realism” (2022) at Art and Culture Center in Hollywood, Florida. Goraczko was the recipient of the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund Grant (2024) and Hypatia-in-the-Woods Solo Artist Residency at Holly House in Shelton, Washington (2022). Her work is in the permanent collection at Frost Art Museum in Miami, Florida. She is currently an Artist-in-Residence at Deering Estate in Miami, FL.
